SURAT THANI, Aug 15 (TNA) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), private sectors and local residents on Samui Island will organize the Samui Festival 2019 to draw tourists to the island in September.
It is expected that about 500 million baht will be circulated during the event, which will be held from September 14-19.
Among the highlights are a cycling race, a traditional merit-making ceremony, sales of OTOP local products, musical performances, and a carnival-like floral procession.
Southern delicacies and famous cuisines will be available along a food street and free buffets will be arranged by local for tourists.
Hotels, airlines and tour operators will offer upto 50 per cent discounts for tourists during the six-day event, which is expected to attract more than 10,000 visitors.
In the overall picture, Samui tourism grew continuously last year. Sumui, Pha-ngan and Tao islands in Surat Thani recorded 2.7 million tourists in 2018, up from 2.5 tourists in the previous year.
The 2018 visitor tally for the whole province was more than six million people.
