BANGKOK, Aug 8 (TNA) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and partners organize the “Give Me Five” campaign to attract visitors from seven countries in the same region and encourage them to shop, expecting 8.5-billion-baht national income.
TAT deputy governor Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya said TAT and partners including airlines and department stores were offering discounts on goods and rights to load heavier luggage aboard flights to visitors from India, Indonesia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia and Cambodia until Sept 30.
Passengers of participating airlines can increase the weight of their loaded luggage by five kilograms and receive discounts of up to 50% on products available at participating department stores.
Normally visitors from the countries spent 13,000-15,000 baht on shopping each per trip and mainly bought food, fruits, garments and cosmetics. The campaign targeted visitors who were families, women and tourists on incentive travels, Mr Chattan said.
The campaign was aimed at attracting 200,000 tourists to Thailand and increasing national income from tourism by 8.5 billion baht, he said.
The campaign could be repeated late this year and would be the first tourism stimulation effort of TAT during the high season, Mr Chattan said. (TNA)
