NONTHABURI, Aug 1 (TNA) – Headline Inflation in July rose 09.8 per cent year-on-year, mainly due to increased food prices.
Pimchanok Vonkorpon, director-general of the Commerce Ministry’s Trade Policy and Strategy Office said that headline inflation in July stood at 103, up 0.87 per cent from the previous month.
She said the main reason was a 7.12- per cent increase of fresh food prices like vegetable, fruit, pork and rice, resulting lower production, affected by the fluctuating weather patterns.
Energy products shrank 3.31 per cent, compared to the preceding month.
Domestic oil prices dropped owing to the strong baht.
Meanwhile, July core inflation, which excludes fresh food and energy was 102.52, up 0.41 per cent year-on-year.
She asked the government to roll out economic stimulus measures as exporters of industrial goods have been affected by global economic slowdown.
Citing the Office of Industrial Economics’ recent report that Thailand’s manufacturing production index (MPI) dropped to the lowest in 29 months, she said that the government has to push for the country’s export growth for the economic recovery. (TNA)
