BANGKOK, July 19 (TNA) — The United States’ Assistant Secretary of State called on the secretary-general to the prime minister to congratulate Thailand for its civilian government and express its readiness to work with the Thai government and investment interest in Southeast Asia.
David R Stilwell, the Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, today met Disathat Hotrakit, secretary-general to the prime minister.
He said the US congratulated Thai people for their auspicious year this year, for the general election and the beginning the new civilian government. The US looked forward to working with the Thai government, he said.
Mr Stilwell also said that his meeting and discussion with Mr Disathat was very useful. He said that Thailand was well playing its roles as the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the US considered Asean as the most important destination for its investment.
The US would take the Indo-Pacific Business Forum in Thailand this November as an opportunity to introduce American companies to its potential Asean partners, Mr Stilwell said. (TNA)
