BANGKOK, July 3 (TNA) – The mother of Thai political
activist Sirawith Seritiwat or “Ja New” asks the opposition bloc to file a
motion in Parliament demanding actions against culprits who brutally attacked
her son last Friday.
CCTV footage showed four men wearing helmets assaulted Ja
New with baseball bats near his Bangkok home before fleeing on their
motorcycles. The 27-year-old man
suffered fracture of skull and broken nose in the second attack against him in
less than a month.
His mother, Patnaree Charnkij, on Wednesday submitted a
letter to the seven opposition parties asking them to file a motion to the
House of Representatives.
Ms. Patnaree said she wanted justice for her son in the
attack in broad daylight. She called on
the lawmakers to consider protection of political activists against harassment
and speedy investigation on the case.
Pheu Thai Party member Cholanan Srikaew who received the
letter from Ms. Patnaree said the opposition parties planned to file an urgent
motion to the Defence Ministry and another motion to setup a probe panel.
The government, meanwhile, has vowed to speed up
investigation and called on all sides to wait for police report instead of
pointing fingers to one another. (TNA)
