CHON BURI, May 8 (TNA) – The Royal Thai Navy supplied 100,000 litres of fresh water for consumption to people on Koh Larn, a tourist island in the eastern province of Chon Buri
Rear Admiral Pinyo Toliang, Deputy Commander of the First Naval Area Command handed over 100,000 litres of freshwater for consumption to the Pattaya city for supplying to Koh Larn, which is now facing shortage of water due to drought.
The water has been sent for distribution for local residents on the island.
Koh Larn is the business area of Pattaya, which earns the country a significant amount of tourism income.
Many parts of Thailand are facing drought and scorching heat this summer. Doi Tao Lake in the northern province of Chiang Mai has been almost dried up.
The lake, which is a tourist site has become an animal raising ground and a graveyard of aquatic animals.
Meanwhile, the water level in Kwan Phayao, or Phayao Lake, the source of consumption water for Phayao province has dropped rapidly to about half or about 15 million cubic metres of its full capacity at 33 cubic metres.
If there is no rain soon, water shortage could affect tap water production. (TNA)
