NONG KHAI, April 26 (TNA) – Thailand and Laos have celebrated the 25th anniversary of the first Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge, connecting the northeastern province of Nong Khai and Vientiane.
Nong Khai governor Ronnachai Jitwiset, acting mayor of Vientiane, Sihun Xitthiluxay and Jean Bernard Carrasco, Australian ambassador to Laos attended the celebrations, which began with merit-making ceremony on the bridge this morning.
Government officials and local people of both countries gave morning alms to 125 Thai and Lao monks. 
Other activities were also held to foster close relations between the two countries such as a golf competition, a light and sound show and cultural performances.
Tomorrow, Bike Ride and Run will be held to promote tourism along the Mekong River. About 870 runners from three countries will participate in the event.
Australian government gave 750 million baht for the first Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge construction, spanning over the Mekong River. The bridge was officially opened in 1994.
It does not only facilitate cross-border trade, transportation and tourism but it is also the symbol of friendship and cooperation among Thailand, Laos and Australia. (TNA)
