BANGKOK, April 8 (TNA) — Deputy Prime Minister/Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon has ordered government agencies to seriously enforce traffic rules and related laws to promote road safety during the Songkran holiday.
Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantrawanit, spokesman of the Defence Ministry, said Gen Prawit was calling for the effective enforcement of traffic rules and laws concerning road traffic and active campaigns through all media to raise public awareness of road safety during the traveling spree in the Songkhran festival.
Gen Prawit’s instruction focused on actions against drunk driving and speeding that were the common causes of traffic deaths, Lt Gen Kongcheep said.
The instruction targeted chiefs of governmental organizations at regional and national levels. Apart from law enforcement and public awareness campaigns, government officials were also ordered to do their best in helping victims of traffic accidents, especially motorcyclists.
“In the time of happiness, all families must take part in promoting safety together with government officials. All parties are conducting activities to campaign for good driving and compliance with traffic rules… Please understand the government officials who must strictly enforce laws. Conveniences may be compromised but this is for the safety of everyone,” Lt Gen Kongcheep said. (TNA)
