BANGKOK, March 8 (TNA) – Thailand’s capital city of
Bangkok celebrates the 237th anniversary of its founding with religious
ceremonies and cultural displays at the heart of historic quarter from Friday
to Sunday.
The 237th Year of Rattanakosin City under Royal Benevolence
has been organised by the Ministry of Culture with activities at iconic
locations in Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon district.
Culture Minister Vira Rojpojchanarat chaired a merit-making
ceremony offering alms to 238 monks at Santi Chai Prakan Parkt Friday morning.
The official opening ceremony was set be held Friday morning
at the National Museum.
To mark the 237th anniversary of the capital city, a host of
cultural performances, colourful parade and educational events are offered to
the Thai public with the aims to honour the monarchy and promote the rich
history of Rattanakosin and Thai cultural heritage.
The events feature city tour, exhibitions, talks and movie
screenings at multiple venues including the National Museum and the National
Theater and Buddhist temples.
The Rattanakosin era began in the year 1782, when King
Buddha Yod Fa Chulalok or King Rama I established Bangkok as the capital of
Thailand. (TNA)
