BANGKOK, March 5 (TNA) – The Central Administrative Court dismissed lawsuits against the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration over failure to install elevators at all 23 BTS stations.
Only five stations are equipped with elevators, which are functional for the physically-challenged.
430 physically challenged people filed complaints to the court, for failing to install elevators within the early 2016 deadline, ordered by the Supreme Administrative Court. They demand 1.4 billion baht in compensation.
The Central Administrative Court yesterday ruled that the BMA has put its efforts to install the elevators and other facilities but it has faced several infrastructure problems such as the water supply system, dual-track railway construction and limited space in residential areas. The obstacles made it fail to comply with the court order at five stations including Nana, Taksin Bridge, Saladaeng, Chidlom and Asok.
Meanwhile, Sonthipong Mongkolsawat, lawyer of the physically challenged network said the BMA failed to issue regulations to order the elevator installation. The network decided to file appeals within 30 days. (TNA)
