BANGKOK, March 1 (TNA) – The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society insists that the newly approved cybersecurity law does not allow officials to infringe on people’s rights.
Vunnaporn Devahastin, deputy permanent secretary of the ministry, said the law did not affect people’s rights or freedom as criticized on social media.
The law was aimed at protecting information networks supporting public utilities, financial services and national security. Officials could not access personal data at will, she said.
Personal computers would be examined when they were found damaging information systems and officials would have to seek court permission for the examination, Mrs Vunnaporn said.
According to her, the new law set three levels of cybersecurity threats. The first is trivial threats concerning individuals. The second is serious cybersecurity threats against which officials will seek court permission before taking action. The third level concerns critical cybersecurity threats against national security.
