GERMANY, Feb 4 (TNA) — Labour Minister Adul Sangsingkeo visited Thai workers in Germany and found that other countries needed thousands of Thai chefs.
The minister said after meeting Thai restaurant operators and workers in Hausach town that he learned about the labour demand as there were about 600 Thai restaurants in Germany and Thai food was very popular there.
Thai workers there wanted to improve their skills, especially language skills, to better serve customers, so the Labour Department supported the skill development through relevant training and tests, the labour minister said.
Suthipong Sukosol, director-general of the Labour Ministry’s Skill Development Department, said such training and tests for Thai workers started in 2011 and as of last year 2,614 workers passed them. This year 88 Thai chefs passed the training and tests, consisting of 60 cooks in Taiwan and 28 others in the Netherlands, he said.
Such training and tests would be expanded to Denmark, Spain and Japan, Mr Suthipong said. (TNA)
