BANGKOK, Jan 30 (TNA) — The Office of Industrial Economics will require automobile producers to faster meet the Euro 5 emission standard to reduce fine particulate matter by 80% in two years.
Nattapol Rangsitpol, director-general of the OIE, said the problem of excessive amount of particulate matter with 2.5 micrometers or less in diameter resulted partly from the vehicles that did not meet the Euro 5 emission standard.
Therefore, the OIE would require local automobile producers to meet at least the Euro 5 standard within 1-2 years. Besides, the xEV automobile production projects that enjoyed promotional privileges would have to produce the vehicles that meet the Euro 6 emission standard, he said.
The requirement would reduce the amount of fine dust particles by about 80% or 37,391 tons within 2021, Mr Nattapol said.
At present, 27 makes of locally produced vehicles under the eco car phase 2 project, 11 makes of locally made medium and large-sized vehicles and 19 makes of imported vehicles meet the Euro 5 standard.
In addition, 27 makes of locally made medium and large-sized vehicles and 84 makes of imported vehicles meet the Euro 6 standard. (TNA)
