BANGKOK, Jan 22 (TNA) – The Thai government has told the
Chinese media that Thailand is still a safe destination for Chinese tourists.
In an effort to boost confidence in Thailand’s safety among
Chinese tourists, Government Spokesman Puttipong Punnakan invited members of
the press from China to a briefing at Government House on Monday.
Senior police, public relations and defense ministry officers
also attended the news conference to provide information on safety measures for
tourists.
Puttipong said afterward that the Chinese media inquired
about safety regulations to prevent tragic boat accident in July last year
which killed 47 Chinese tourists.
He told the Chinese media that the government took tourist
safety very seriously and assured that Thailand cared them as if they were
family.
Thailand informed the media on on-arrival-visa for Chinese
citizens and other more convenient services to facilitate tourists, he said.
Although the number of Chinese tourist arrivals had dropped
since the incident the yearly figure of 2018 exceeded 10 million mark.
Puttipong said Thailand expected more Chinese visitors
during the Chinese New Year celebration next month.(TNA)
