BANGKOK, Jan 18 (TNA) – Bangkok city is set to launch a
six-week program aiming to educate students and personnel of its 437 schools
about the upcoming general election.
In cooperation with the Election Commission (EC), Bangkok
Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will organize the program featuring lectures
on electoral process and learning activities at 437 BMA-run schools, according
to officials.
EC Secretary-general Jarungwit Phumma said once students
learned and understood the importance of election they could relay that
information to their families, neighbors and communities.
“Learning of political system and process was crucial for
students themselves… students should also encourage their parents to cast their
ballots to determine the country’s direction,” he said.
In the first week of the program, school directors and
management will attend meeting in preparation of the activities. Next, teachers will obtain learning materials
and present exhibitions on electoral process in their respective schools in the
second week.
The third week is for students to engage in various
activities, both inside and outside classroom.
In the fourth week, students will write letters to their own families
encouraging them to vote.
Then, the program focusses on community level in the fifth
week, having students survey information about their own neighborhood and
engage their neighbors in learning.
Lastly, the sixth week will fall on election date, which has
not been confirmed. Students are asked
to observe voting and vote counting at polling stations. (TNA)
