PATTAYA, March 13 (TNA) – The management of the Nongnooch Pattaya Garden and local authorities organized an event with many highlights to mark the Thai National Elephant Day.
Sattahip district chief Anucha Inthasorn, Bang Lamung district’s livestock development chief Samart Butsasom, Phanom Meesiriphan, chief of the Office of Regional Livestock 2, and Phanthanan Khantisukphan, general manager of the Nongnooch Pattaya Garden, opened the Thai National Elephant Day event at the garden. They together with tourists witnessed impressive activities including a procession to honor the history of Thai elephants, a ceremony to boost the morale of elephants and a feast for elephants.
March 13 was declared the Thai National Elephant Day to honor elephants that are the important animal of Thailand. They were royal pets, appeared in national flags and were important war animals in former Thai kings’ battles including ones that restored the national sovereignty. The Thai National Elephant Day was declared to raise public awareness of the importance of Thai elephants.
Nongnooch Pattaya Garden president Kampol Tansajja said the park had 93 elephants consisting of 15 males and 78 females and would increase their number in the future.
The Livestock Development Department certified the park as the first standard elephant camp in the East and the Tourism Department gave a certificate for the outstanding standard of its use of elephants for tourism-related activities, he said. (TNA)
