BANGKOK, Jan 29 (TNA) — The Ministry of Higher Education Science Research and Innovation is taking action to cope with the outbreak of the novel coronavirus regarding the living conditions of Thai students in China and Chinese students in Thailand.
Suvit Maesincee, Minister of Higher Education Science Research and Innovation, discussed relevant measures with representatives of concerned organizations. He said his ministry coordinated assistance for 58 Thai students in Wuhan city with the Foreign Ministry.
If the students return to Thailand, they will undergo 14-day-long surveillance procedures of the Department of Disease Control. Those free of the disease would be allowed to return home afterwards, the minister said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Higher Education Science Research and Innovation is also monitoring the conditions of 11,738 Chinese students who study at 87 public and private universities in Thailand. The Chinese students who have not returned to classes in Thailand were asked to postpone their arrivals and their universities would change their academic terms accordingly, Mr Suvit said.
He added that he ordered investigation into the report that some local universities accommodated Chinese tourists. Besides, he told organizations under his ministry to support research on the prevention of emerging diseases. (TNA)
