BANGKOK, Dec 10 (TNA) – Levels of particulate matter 2.5 micrometers or less in diameter (PM2.5) reached unsafe levels in seven areas of the capital and people were advised to stay indoors.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration reported that PM2.5 measured 34-57 micrograms per cubic meter of air over the past 24 hours. The safe threshold stands at 50mg.
PM2.5 measured 53mg in front of Samyan Mitrtown complex in Pathumwan district, Thanon Tok intersection in Bang Kholaem district, under Taksin Bridge in Khlong San district, in front of Siam University in Phasicharoen district, and Bang Sue district office.
Elsewhere, the air pollution levels were reported at 56mg at Laksi district office and 57mg at Bang Khen district office.
City clerk Silpasuay Raweesaengsoon said people in the unsafe areas might cough, have breathing difficulties or suffer eye irritation and outdoor activities should be limited especially for elderly people, children and those with respiratory illnesses. (TNA)
