CHIANG MAI, Dec 4 (TNA) – Mercury in the North and the
Northeast of Thailand dropped sharply Wednesday morning due to a high pressure
system moving in from China.
At Mount Inthanon peak in Chiang Mai province, temperature
plunged to 7 degree Celsius. Tourists
flocking viewpoints were disappointed because thick cloud blocking sunrise.
Chiang Mai meteorological office reported a ridge of high pressure
has caused a sharp drop in temperature to upper Thailand.
In neighboring Chiang Rai province, temperature in urban
area sharply dropped to 15 degree Celsius.
Highland tribes in remote areas of the province have to rely on bonfires
to keep warm.
Until the weekend, Thailand will continue to experience
drastic drop of temperature, the Meteorological Department predicts, as strong
high-pressure system covers upper Thailand.
To fight the chilly weather, over 1,000 masques at a public
park in Yasothon province of the northeast have to find cuddling partners in
the sun. (TNA)
