CHIANG MAI, Sept 18 (TNA) – A large crowd attends an
activity to mourn the death of celebrity giant panda Chuang Chuang at Chiang Mai
Zoo in northern Thailand as a post-mortem examination is planned for Thursday
to determine the cause of his death.
The male giant panda died of unknown causes on Monday
evening, just over a month after his 19th birthday. Zoo officials said health examination and
blood tests showed no sign of any illness.
Zoo staffs were joined by visitors and panda lovers wearing
black and white on Wednesday to place flowers at a panda sculpture.
They wrote their messages of condolence on a board and left
panda memorabilia to express the grief.
Zoo officials revealed that Thai veterinarians and Chinese
officials will jointly perform postmortem examination on Thursday.
Chuang Chuang and his mate Lin Hui arrived in Thailand on loan
from China in October 2003. In 2009, Lin
Hui gave birth to the first Thai-born giant panda, Lin Ping, which has been
sent to China under the loan agreement. (TNA)
