BANGKOK, Aug 26 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha opened the 40th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), praising it for helping implement the policies of Southeast Asian governments.
In the opening ceremony, Gen Prayut said he was pleased and honored to start the meeting as in the past four decades, AIPA had grown along with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and supported the workings of ASEAN governments through legislative work. AIPA had played important roles in supporting the 3rd pillar of ASEAN that concerned the communities, societies and cultures of ASEAN, the prime minister said.
“ASEAN’s executives must depend on AIPA when it comes to the communication of policies to people. With cooperation and support from the legislature, policies can be formulated and successfully implemented,” Gen Prayut said.
In the opening ceremony, the prime minister said that ASEAN was facing many challenges including human trafficking, crime and environmental problems.
He praised AIPA for its efforts to push for ASEAN’s sustainability. (TNA)
