BANGKOK, Oct 17 (TNA) — About 28 million foreign travelers visited Thailand and spent 1.4 trillion baht in the first nine months of this year.
The arrivals rose by 8.71% and the tourism-related income went up by about 10% year-on-year.
Pongpanu Svetarundra, permanent secretary for tourism and sports, said that in September alone the country welcomed 2,655,562 visitors. Most of them, 1,948,414, came from East Asia, followed by travelers from Europe, South Asia, the United States, the Middle East and Africa. The arrivals increased by 2.13% from the same period of last year.
The top ten inbound markets were China, Malaysia, Laos, Japan, South Korea, India, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Vietnam. The visitors spent 140,140.11 million baht in the country, up by 2.92% year-on-year.
The top ten biggest spenders were from China, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, Australia, the US, Laos, India, the United Kingdom and Cambodia.
In the first nine months of this year, there were 28,541,887 visitors, up by 8.71% year-on-year. They spent 1,490,458.01 million baht, up by 10.95% from the same period of last year.
In August, Thai tourists made 13.26 million trips in the country, increasing by 2.81% year-on-year. They spent 89,366.43 million baht, rising 9.59% from the corresponding period of last year. (TNA)
