BANGKOK, Oct 11 (TNA) — The Minister of Social Development and Human Security Anantaporn Kanjanarat on Wednesday presented honorary plaques to 15 people and organizations that supported housing for low-income people on the occasion of the World Habitat Day.
In the presentation ceremony and an event to mark the World Habitat Day, Gen Anantaporn said the United Nations set the World Habitat Day on the first Monday of October to raise international awareness of the shortages and substandard conditions of residences and necessity to solve the problems.
He said Thailand had a housing master plan for 20-year implementation starting last year and it was based on the goal that all Thai people would have residences and good life within 2036.
The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security implemented many projects to provide 79,785 poor families with new residences, the minister said. It also offers farmland to those in rural areas. Some poor communities living along waterways are supervised by the Marine Department and about 2,000 families will have new residences in areas that were formerly deteriorated forests. Besides, the ministry repaired houses for about 200,000 families.
There are about 4 million poor families nationwide. (TNA)
