BANGKOK, Sept 16 (TNA) – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, along with his economic team of Ministers-designate, on Monday visited the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) to hold a meeting and discuss ways to cooperate in driving the Thai economy and industry. The Prime Minister met with FTI Chairman Kriangkrai Thiennukul and other FTI executives to address policies aimed at boosting the economy and industry.
Following the meeting, the Prime Minister stated that he came to listen to the private sector’s concerns and their requests for the government to address urgent issues. These issues included the country’s development trajectory, the transformation of Thai industries, increasing trade competition, and the situation at the Thai-Cambodian border. He also highlighted the goal of strengthening the ASEAN bloc and positioning Thailand as a central hub for economic and industrial growth.
When asked if the border issues posed a challenge to the industrial sector, Mr. Anutin acknowledged that they did to some extent. However, he clarified that there would be no definite opening of the border crossings for now. He added that a combination of military and diplomatic approaches would be used simultaneously, but only after the government has officially begun its work.
Regarding the “co-pay” scheme, an economic stimulus measure where the government subsidizes a percentage of an individual’s spending on goods and services to boost consumer purchasing power and support local businesses, the Prime Minister assured that the public can expect to receive these benefits. He stated that the details and implementation plan would be explained to the public by the Finance Minister. -819(TNA)
