NONTHABURI, Nov 4 (TNA) – The Commerce Ministry is confident that the shortage of fresh vegetables will end soon and pending that it deploys mobile markets to sell vegetables at reasonable prices.
Wattanasak Sur-iam, director-general of the Commerce Ministry’s Department of Internal Trade, gave the update on the vegetable price situation and said that rising prices happened mainly to coriander which was highly sensitive to water and weather conditions and was used only for dish decoration not for real consumption.
He said the department helped consumers by deploying 50 vehicles to sell vegetables cheaper than market prices for one month starting from Nov 3.
It sourced vegetables from wholesale markets including the Sri Muang market in Ratchaburi province as well as Simummuang and Talaad Thai markets and hoped general people and eatery operators could buy vegetables at reasonable prices from the vehicles, the director-general said.
Mr. Wattanasak said that vegetable prices would rise temporarily and after floods receded, vegetable farms would be restored and consumers would finally have enough supplies of vegetables. (TNA)
