BANGKOK, Oct 13 (TNA) – People nationwide made merits in remembrance of King Rama IX who passed away on Oct 13, 2016.
In Bangkok, Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over a ceremony where participants gave alms to 89 Buddhist monks at the Sanam Luang royal ground.
There the prime minister also led cabinet ministers in a wreath-laying ceremony in front of the late King’s portrait. People wore yellow, the traditional birthday colour of the King, to demonstrate loyalty and gratitude for the late King’s contribution to the nation. Volunteers also showed up at Sanam Luang for social service activities.
In Chiang Mai province, its governor led local officials and residents to give alms to 89 Buddhist monks and laid yellow wreaths to remember the late King’s work and guidelines for the public interest including his Sufficiency Economy philosophy that is a basis for the well-being of Thai people.
