SHAN STATE, MYANMAR, June 26 (TNA) – The Shan State Restoration Council (RCSS)/ Shan State Army (SSA) burned seized drugs on World Drug Day. The operation team has consistently cracked down on drug trafficking rings, leading to today’s incineration event.
This event was held at the force’s regional headquarters in Myanmar opposite Chiang Rai’s Mae Fah Luang district. It involved local youth and soldiers, aimed to raise awareness about the global drug problem and encourage community participation in drug prevention. Activities included a march and the destruction of seized drugs.
From June 2023 to June 2024, the seized drugs included 5,393,600 methamphetamine pills, 1 kilogram of heroin, 105 kilograms of ice (crystal meth), 51 kilograms of caffeine (a compound used in the production of methamphetamine to reduce its concentration), 20 liters of drug-manufacturing liquid, and 10 kilograms of drug-making powder.
Under the crackdown operations, 13 drug couriers and 15 drug factory workers were arrested.
The event invited media from various countries to highlight the issue of drug production and smuggling into Thailand, which is then distributed to major Thai cities and third countries. This raises funds for the producers to expand their influence and develop advanced manufacturing equipment.
The RCSS has intensified its anti-drug operations and dismantled trafficking networks continuously. They emphasized preventing drug involvement among the youth by promoting legal occupations, self-sufficiency, unity, and strictly prohibiting any drug-related activities, which carry severe penalties. -819 (TNA)
