BANGKOK, July 24 (TNA) -The Ombudsman has resolved to submit a petition to the Constitutional Court for a ruling on whether the parliament’s resolution to reject the renomination of Move Forward Party leader for prime minister was unconstitutional.
The office will also ask the court to postpone the next PM vote, now scheduled for July 27 until it delivers a ruling.
Ombudsman’s Office secretary-general Keirov Kritteranon said the office will submit the petition to the Constitutional Court to rule on the legality of last week’s parliament vote against Pita’s renomination after 17 complaints over the issue had been submitted to the office by MPs and people.
A joint sitting of the House and the Senate last week voted to reject Pita’s renomination as the prime ministerial candidate, citing the resubmission of a failed motion in the same session was prohibited by the parliamentary regulation No.41. The MFP MPs said the nomination of a prime minister was not a motion and could be resubmitted in the parliamentary process to select a prime minister.
The use of this resolution will likely be applied to a candidate from Pheu Thai Party in the next round of voting, which means each of its candidates can be nominated once. (TNA)
