BANGKOK, May 12 (TNA) – The Election Commission of Thailand has finished sorting the advance ballots and is sending them to 400 constituencies nationwide along with ballots cast by overseas voters.
Sawang Boonmee, EC Secretary-General said that the envelops, containing the ballots in the advance voting on May 7 were checked for accuracy. They are being delivered to respective polling stations.
Advance ballots cast by voters living abroad have been returned from 91 embassies and consulates. Ballots from the remaining three embassies in South Africa, Mozambique and Mexico arrived on Thursday and Friday. They will be separated and sent to respective constituencies by Friday.
Mr. Sawang said that the EC found more than 100 fake and distorted news about the EC. For example, a video clip shared online showed officials checking ballot papers but social media users accused them of marking crosses on ballot papers.
He said in fact, officials responsible for constituencies were signing to receive the ballot papers before handing them over to officials at polling stations.
The clip was recorded to ensure transparency but it was distorted. The EC will take action against those disseminating fake news, he said. (TNA)
