BANGKOK, June 15 (TNA) – The Senate approved the executive decree authorizing the Finance Ministry to borrow additionally 500 billion baht to cope with the social and economic impacts of COVID-19 by 205 votes in favor, 0 against and 2 abstentions.
Earlier the cabinet had proposed the executive decree to the parliament and the House of Representatives had already passed it.
Many senators voiced their opinions on the decree. Most of them supported it. Among them, Assoc Prof Dr Chalermchai Boonyaleephan suggested the spending of 30 billion baht on medical researches and equipment should be carefully planned for the sake of effective treatment.
He also urged the government to acquire enough supplies for third jabs of COVID-19 vaccines for people, saying tests showed that immunity from second jabs lasted only six months. Third doses would stimulate immunity and prevent future outbreaks and viral mutation, he said. (TNA)
