BANGKOK, Aug 19 (TNA) — The Transport Ministry hosted a maritime conference to work out maritime transport plans in accordance with development goats of the United Nations.
Deputy Transport Minister Atirat Ratanasate opened the regional workshop on a framework of cooperation on water transport integration with the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Forty-five participants from 18 countries attended the meeting.
Mr Atirat said the Transport Ministry through the Marine Department and the Port Authority of Thailand set the workshop at the convention building of ESCAP on Aug 19 and 20 and participants were exchanging information and knowledge on maritime transport. He said Thailand initiated the meeting.
The workshop would come up with the maritime transport strategies that would respond to the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN. Besides, it would promote the roles of Thailand in international forums as the country wished to be elected to the Council of the IMO late this year, the deputy transport minister said. (TNA)
