BANGKOK, Aug 15 (TNA) – Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) and
Navayuga Container Terminal of India have signed a cooperation agreement aiming
to cut logistics costs by half.
The agreement would create port-to-port cooperation between PAT’s
Ranong Port on Andaman Sea coast and Navayuga Container Terminal’s
Krishnapatnam Port, PAT director-general Kamolsak Promprayoon said after signing
the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday.
The two ports planned to exchange information on management,
operation, IT system and investment promotion under this agreement as well, he
said.
As Thailand’s trade volume with BIMSTEC countries steadily
increased by an average 8 percent annually, this cooperation agreement would
facilitate more robust trade activity by reducing costs and shipping time,
Kamolsak said.
A biannual workshop would be held for both ports to
formulate joint activities, improve their services and promote trade and
investment, said the PAT secretary-general.
BIMSTEC, or the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral
Technical and Economic Cooperation, consists of Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri
Lanka, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan.(TNA)
