BANGKOK, Aug 14 (TNA) – Thailand’s House Speaker Chuan
Leekpai has assured ASEAN members of security measures for the 40th ASEAN Inter
Parliament Assembly (AIPA) later this month.
Mr. Chuan on Wednesday met with diplomats from ASEAN
countries to brief them about preparations for the AIPA meeting to be held at
Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok under the theme “Advancing Parliamentary
Partnership for Sustainable Community” from August 25 to 30.
Following the series of bombing attacks on August 1 and 2,
the House Speaker acknowledged concerns over security situation in the capital
and gave assurance on security measures for the meeting.
As the chair of ASEAN, Thailand is hosting the event with
plans to focus on the role of legislators in fostering people-centered ASEAN.
Thailand will showcase its tradition and culture through a
number of activities during the Assembly, according to Parliament.(TNA)
