NONTHABURI, Aug 9 (TNA) – Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanawisit discussed with the Board of Trade of Thailand solutions to promote border trade and new border crossings are among potential initiatives.
Mr Jurin and the board agreed to set up a “war room” where representatives of the Commerce Ministry and the private sector will jointly work out solutions to promote exports. The war room will have working groups to study in depth product and service exports and markets. Some solutions will address obstacles to border trade.
The private sector would take the lead in the export promotion in planned directions and the Commerce Ministry would support the private sector’s attempts, Mr Jurin said.
Both sides also agreed to accelerate foreign trade negotiations through the ASEAN+6 grouping and with the European Union and countries involved in border trade with Thailand. Border trade played important roles in export growth and the opening of new border passes and the upgrade of existing ones were essential, the commerce minister said.
Regarding the development of existing border passes, Mr Jurin mentioned the Ban Huai Ton Noon checkpoint in Mae Hong Son province, the Singkhon pass in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, the An Ma pass in Ubon Ratchathani province, the Sai Taku pass in Buri Ram province and the Ban Tha Sen pass in Trat province.
