BANGKOK, Aug 5 (TNA) – Tropical storm Vibha continues to
bring heavy rain to upper Thailand, triggering flash floods and landslides.
Vibha has been downgraded to an active low pressure as it
moved southwest into Thailand’s north.
But with southwest monsoon prevailing over the south, rainfall increases
in Thailand’s northern and northeastern parts.
A 35-year-old man has been missing for three days after his
fishing boat sank in the Moei River on the Thai-Myanmar border. Rescuers in Mae Sot district of Tak province
have been mobilized for the search and rescue operation.
Heavy rains and landslides have forced a school in Mae Hong
Son province to suspend its classes.
Accumulated rainfall has caused flash floods prompting Long Pae Witthaya
School’s director to announce emergency closure until further notice.
The school director told about 200 pupils to stay safe at
home and reported flooding that cut off roads to the school.
In Payao, two districts have been inundated after days of
heavy rains. Lao River drainage gates
have been overflown causing deep floods in a vast area.(TNA)
