SONGKHLA, Aug 2 (TNA) – A durian processing factory, invested by Chinese businessmen started operation in Songkhla’s Thepa district, buying durians in the South for exports to China.
It is the first factory in several years, investing in the Thai South after the violence erupted in the southern border provinces in 2004.
Manguwang Food Company with the investment of 700 million baht buys durians from farmers in the southern border provinces for processing into freeze-dried durian and quick frozen durian pulp for exports to China.
Xiao Yaoheng, managing director of the company said it plans to buy 12,000 tonnes of durian this year and will increase production capacity to 20,000 tonnes next year.
The factory will hire more workers for production expansion, which will generate jobs for more than 1,200 local people. (TNA)
