BANGKOK, July 31 (TNA) — Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha opened the 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Bangkok and encouraged participants to proceed with ASEAN’s initiatives towards sustainability.
The meeting was set at Centara Grand at CentralWorld Hotel on July 30-Aug 3. It gathered representatives from 31 countries consisting ASEAN member states and their dialogue partners.
Gen Prayut told the meeting that Thailand, as the ASEAN chair, was developing people-centered ASEAN and promoting cooperation with partners outside the region for the sake of comprehensive sustainability and benefits for people.
He mentioned ASEAN’s achievements in the past six months, including ASEAN leaders’ agreement on partnership for sustainability, the opening of the Disaster Emergency Logistics System for ASEAN, the upgrade of the ASEAN Center of Military Medicine and regional efforts to handle sea waste.
Gen Prayut said the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting offered a good opportunity to build on ASEAN’s roles and cooperation with dialogue partners, promote connectivity among ASEAN states and with other countries, work out regional security and push for the implementation of initiatives. (TNA)
