BANGKOK, July 26 (TNA) – The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand will invest 12 million baht in a pilot project on hazardous waste management in Lamphun province.
IEAT deputy governor Jakkarat Lertopas said the pilot project would be implemented this year to prevent the recurrence of improper disposal of hazardous industrial waste like the illegal transport of industrial waste by Suntech Metals Co to Sa Kaeo province.
According to him, Global Utilities Services Co (GUSCO) will implement the pilot project at the Northern Region Industrial Estate in Lamphun where many electronic factories of Japan stand.
Hazardous waste have been transported from the industrial estate for proper disposal at other facilities in Thailand and Japan because Thailand does not have a facility for the management of all forms of hazardous waste, Mr Jakkarat said.
If the pilot project proves to be successful, it will be expanded at all 12 industrial estates of the IEAT, he said. (TNA)
