BANGKOK, July 23 (TNA) – Thai analysts predict the
country’s exports could drop by 1.6-3.1 percent this year amid economic
uncertainties.
The SCB Economic Intelligence Centre (EIC) made the exports projection
after the June figures as reported by the Commerce Ministry fell 2.15 percent
year-on-year.
Exports to major markets had dropped, especially China which
recorded 14.9 percent decrease.
In the latter half of 2019, economic uncertainties would continue
to affect the exports although the US and China planned to resume trade
negotiation after the G20 summit in Japan last month, the Center’s analysts
said.
The impacts of slow exports had been more evident in various
sectors including tourism leading the Center to predict GDP growth in the
second quarter to drop from 2.8 percent recorded in the first quarter.
However, the EIC maintained its forecast of Thailand’s
economy growth at 3.1 per cent in this year, driven by domestic consumption and
government infrastructure and stimulus spending.(TNA)
