BANGKOK, July 22 (TNA) — Thai students won 1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals from the International Biology Olympiad in Hungary.
Chukit Limpichamnong, director of the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology, said the awards were from the 30th International Biology Olympiad in Szeged on July 14-21.
The event gathered 285 competitors from 72 countries. Chinese students were the top scorer and the first runner-up and an American student was on the third place, he said.
Mr Chukit also said Thai contenders won 3 gold medals and 3 silver medals at the 60th International Mathematical Olympiad in Bath, the United Kingdom, on July 14-22. As a team, Thai students made the 5th highest score in the competition. The 185 score was the highest Thai students ever made since their participation in the Olympiad since 1989, Mr Chukit said.
The competition saw 621 contenders from 112 countries. China and the United States made overall top scores.
Thai participants would return to Thailand on July 23, Mr Chukit said. (TNA)
