BANGKOK, July 5 (TNA) — Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered concerned officials to take care of people affected by flash flooding in Khlong Dan sub-district of Samut Prakan province.
Deputy government spokesman Werachon Sukondhapatipak said Gen Prayut issued the order after abrupt flooding in a community near the Cholaharnphijit pumping station in Bang Bo district. He denied earlier reports that a local seacoast embankment burst and caused the flooding. People should not panic about the reports, Lt Gen Werachon said.
According to him, a high tide caused the flooding and the level started to subside. The Royal Irrigation Department would reinforce the tide-damaged embankment to cope with high tides in the future.
Officials were handing out assistance to affected people. The prime minister was concerned about the people and praised rescue workers for their swift responses to help victims, Lt Gen Werachon said. (TNA)
