SAMUT PRAKAN, July 5 (TNA) – Authorities are gearing up to repair a flood embankment after high tide triggered the unexpected flood in the Klong Dan community in Samut Prakan province last night.
Flood water overflowed into residential areas and the water level was as high as one metre.
Samut Prakan governor and Director of Chonlahan Phichit Operation and Maintenance Project ordered reinforcement of the earthen embankment but work suspended during heavy rain and strong wind this morning.
The work has resumed and is expected to be completed by 6 pm. today before the high tide again.
Flood has receded and the situation started to return to normal.
The director earlier denied rumour that a dam had broken, saying that the flood was caused by the high tide, overflowing the flood embankment under construction.
Samut Prakan governor said that the elderly and patients were evacuated last night as the flood hit about 40 houses at 8 pm. The authorities could not run water pumps until 2 am. today to prevent further damage to nearby communities. (TNA)
