BANGKOK, July 3 (TNA) – The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has its personnel carry cloth bags and tiffin carriers instead of using plastic bags in order to reduce plastic waste.
The ministry stated that the campaign started with its officials nationwide on Aug 1 last year in response to the government’s policy to reduce the use of plastic bags and Styrofoam food boxes and curb plastic waste.
Besides, the ministry’s Department of Women’s Affairs and Family Development handed cloth bags to people at Ramathibodi Hospital on Oct 4 last year. Trainees at the department’s eight development centers in provinces made the bags.
The Department of Social Development and Welfare had its staff use their own tiffin carriers and cups at their canteens. They enjoyed discounts on beverages in return.
The ministry stated that if one person cut the use of plastic bags by one bag a day, the consumption of plastic bags would drop by about 24,820 bags in one year. (TNA)
