BANGKOK, June 26 (TNA) — Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered relevant organizations to cooperate on flood solutions and move deserted vehicles that block flood drainage ways to the sea to create artificial reefs.
Gen Prayut said that flood responses were effective in the past five years and the costs of rehabilitation for flood victims were cut by tens of billions of baht. Regarding flooding in Bangkok, he said that it resulted partly from vehicles parked improperly and he ordered their removal.
“Deserted vehicles were parked under expressways and create untidy environments. They must be disposed of… They can be turned into artificial reefs,” Gen Prayut said.
Besides, Bangkok needed better sewers and pumps to enhance its flood drainage capacity, he said.
In addition, the government was building water retention areas and underground water storage space to cope with heavy rainfalls, the prime minister said. (TNA)
