BANGKOK, June 22 (TNA) — Thai Foreign Affairs Minister Don Pramudwinai has discussed with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi on significant issues prevailing in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), especially on Myanmar’s Rakhine State where majority of the population are Rohingya Muslims, according to a spokeswoman of the Thai Foreign Affairs Ministry.
The two persons discussed the issue on Friday on the sidelines of the 34th ASEAN Summit, starting in Bangkok on Saturday and ends Sunday.
Currently, the ASEAN members have jointly rehabilitate and develop Rakhine State on sustainable basis so that its displaced persons return to the area and enjoy a better livelihood.
Also, the two persons discussed cooperation within the ASEAN framework, said the spokeswoman.
Both sides exchanged ideas on their Indo-Pacific strategy which would offer economic cooperation in the Pacific and the Indian oceans, said the spokeswoman.
Mr Don also the same day discussed with Brunei’s Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Erywan Pehin Yusof on bilateral and tripartite cooperation, halal food and agricultural matters, she added. (END)
