BANGKOK, June 10 (TNA) — King Power Group has won a bidding contest to operate duty-free shops at three regional airports and the latest victory results in its sole right to operate commercial areas at Suvarnabhumi airport and regional airports.
Vitavas Vibhagool, chief executive officer of Grand Asset Hotels and Property Plc, said that King Power Duty Free Co received 96 points from Airports of Thailand Plc in the bidding contest while his group of contenders including Royal Orchid Hotels (Thailand) had 86 points and the other contender, the group including Bangkok Airways, received 84 points.
The bidding contest concerned rights to operate duty-free shops at Phuket, Chiang Mai and Hat Yai airports.
“It’s a pity that we did not win the contest. Earlier we and our partners planned to sell products locally and overseas. Thai products would be brought to duty-free shops in other countries,” Mr Vitavas said. His group of contenders included Empire Asia Group and WDFG UK Limited. The partners of Bangkok Airways in the contest were Bangkok Airways Holding and Hotel Lotte.
Airports of Thailand organized three bidding contests to select contractors to operate duty-free shops and commercial areas at major airports. Earlier King Power won bidding contests to run the duty-free shop and commercial areas of Suvarnabhumi airport. (TNA)
