YALA, June 5 (TNA) – Thai Muslims joined prayers for
peace at the end of the holy month of Ramadan on Wednesday.
Eid al-Fitr or Hari Raya, Feast of Breaking the Fast, is a
holiday for five Muslim-majority provinces in southern Thailand – Narathiwat,
Pattani, Satun, Songkhla and Yala.
After the holy month of Ramadan, they gathered at mosques
for morning prayers, expressing hope for peace in the insurgency-hit region.
They attended special Eid al-Fitr prayers not only at
mosques but also various locations including Youth Centre Stadium in the Mueang
district of Yala province.
Hari Raya, as it is best known locally, marks the end of
Ramadan when Thai celebrate the festival with feasts with their families,
sharing food and good will to their neighbors.
They had prepared food for celebration with many family
members, many of them are migrant workers in Bangkok and neighbouring
countries.(TNA)
