BANGKOK, May 31 (TNA) – The Parliament will select the
prime minister next Wednesday, newly-endorsed House Speaker Chuan Leekpai
announced on Friday.
Chuan along with his two deputies, Suchart Tancharoen and
Supachai Phosu, have been royally endorsed after they won the House votes on
Sunday.
All three on Friday paid respects to HM the King’s portrait
in a ceremony to acknowledge the Royal Command at Parliament after the Royal
Gazette published the royal endorsement earlier on the day.
The nomination and selection of the next prime minister will
be held in a joint session of both the Senate and the House of
Representatives.
Despite attempt to form government coalition is not
complete, Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha is likely to win the vote and return as a
civilian prime minister.
The junta leader is expected to receive nearly 200 votes
from Palang Pracharath Party and its allies along with the 250 senators, most
of whom selected by the junta.
A prime minister must get at least 376 votes from the 500
MPs and 250 senators.
Upper House Speaker Pornpetch Wichitcholchai and his two
deputies have also been endorsed. (TNA)
