BANGKOK, May 29 (TNA) – The
Cabinet on Tuesday approved a draft joint venture contract of the high-speed
rail projects linking three major airports.
The Charoen Pokphand Group-led consortium is
expected to sign the contract with the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) in
mid-June.
The 224-billion- baht
high-speed rail project, connecting Samut Prakan’s Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok’s Don
Mueang and Rayong’s U-Tapao airports is expected to be operational in 2024.
After the 50-year concession
period expires, all assets will belong to the government.
Nutthaporn Jatusripitak, spokesman for Deputy Prime
Minister for Economic Affairs said under the draft contract, the SRT will
invest 149 billion baht in the project.
It will pay 14.9 billion baht a
year for over a period of ten years. (TNA)
