BANGKOK, May 24 (TNA) – As many as 45 million Thai people used the internet and caused the value of e-commerce in the country to reach 3.15 trillion baht last year.
Sakchai Pattrapreechakul, president of NCC Exhibition Organizer Co, revealed the figures and said the number of Thai internet users soared 3.8 times in ten years and that changed consumers’ behaviors.
He expected the value of e-commerce in the country to rise 8-10% this year and e-commerce in the business-to-consumer segment would be worth 865 billion baht. The B2C segment had grown at the fastest pace in Southeast Asia for five years, he said.
That resulted partly from the startup trend which inspired 36% of people aged 18-34 to try to be operators.
However, Mr Sakchai said, 95% of worldwide startups failed because they did not meet market demand, had high costs and lacked knowledge about business models.
He also said that most Thai startups were in their explore stage. (TNA)
